Trivia Tuesday: Zelda (Part 2)

Today, we visit the Hyrulian series once again! I’m gonna throw five facts at you of the series of the Legend of Zelda.

1. Did you know that Link and Young Link from Super Smash Bros. Melee have the same model of hookshot? Which makes Young Link have a rather large hookshot compared to his small frame. Another fact on Smash Bros. Melee compared to the Zelda series, turning the background to “nighttime” on Ganondorf’s trophy, his eyes will turn yellow.

2. Thanks to Hyrule Historia, we saw LOADS of concepts. Here’s just one of them, one taken from Links Awakening, and it says ‘Problem: What’re we gonna do about 1P mode?’ which suggests the game was originally to have multiplayer. But, you can also see that this concept art shows a futuristic Zelda. Most Zelda fans know that the original Legend of Zelda was supposed to take place in the past and future, but it seems like they were going to take another approach at it. This art was for A Link to the Past.

3. Skyward Sword is the most recent installment to the Zelda series, if you don’t count the upcoming A Link Between Worlds. And most who have played the game recognize Fi, the spirit who resides in the sword of the first Link. Zelda fans may notice a similar concept between her and the Fairy Queen from Wind Waker, though most shrug it off as a coincidence. However, it wasn’t. The development team had a bunch of ideas, but they liked the concept of the one similar to the fairy queen.

4. Hidden in the code of Majora’s Mask, shows a cutscene of the Great Fairy physically training our hero in green. Kind of confusing, if you ask me, as this is the sequel to Ocarina of Time and Link already knows how to use a spin attack.

5. The original Legend of Zelda has some interesting trivia on the enemy Pol’s Voice. The manual states that they hate loud noises, so players outside of Japan thought to use the Recorder item but to no avail. Only the Japanese version is where this takes effect, as the Famicon controller had a built in microphone. However, in further appearances of the Pol’s Voice the Recorder (or some other instrument or noise maker) will defeat it.
