Spotlight Saturday: Swalot

Swalot here probably has the strangest design we’ve showcased so far. This Poison-type is a little weird looking and probably wouldn’t make it on YOUR team. Swalot here IS a Never Used-tier pokemon, but it’s not hopeless. Check out it’s RelicSong page! That’s right, we’re going to a NEW sight occasionally for strategy. This strategy was written by yours truly. The site is still a little small so not EVERY pokemon has a strategy on there, but please do check it out. Anyways, this Sack of Toxins pokemon may look a little funny but there is more than meets the eye for him.

Swalot has actually had a bit more anime appearances than recent pokemon we’ve covered. However, I’d only like to mention the first time he appeared. The first time he appeared was under the ownership of coordinator Anthony in Deceit and Assist. It appeared as a very tough opponent down in the Grand Festival. Probably because of it’s giant mouth, right? It proved to be a tough opponent to May, with powerful moves like Sludge Bomb and Swallow.

Swalot has only ever been used once by me. It was in an Under Used team (despite being Never Used) and he had the strategy I shared before, the one I made for RelicSong. Her name was Lilac and she was a TANK. Moves rarely could KO her except for a strong ground-type pokemon’s Earthquake or a powerful Psyshock. Lilac wasn’t the best of my team, but she could carry her own weight and became a staple to that team for a long while.

Hailing from the Hoenn region, Swalot is really odd looking pokemon. He is most likely just a huge, poison gland with weird arms and a mustache. Swalot ALSO could be based on organisms that move with pseudopodia or fake appendages. His name isn’t as controversial, as many fans agree it comes from “swallow a lot” because that’s what Swalot does. Too bad this guy doesn’t get more love, because I get attached to pokemon really easily. Somehow, if I choose a random pokemon and make a strategy on it, I start to warm up to it for a while.
